Vessel

:

M/T “YASMIN C”

Date

:

23/1/2009 – 2/2/2009

Place

:

Selinia, Salamis Island (Greece)

Casualty

:

Grounding – Refloating Operation

During her stay at Piraeus anchorage for bunkering, the vessel whilst in ballast condition with 68mtons F.O. and 17mtons D.O., was drifted by adverse weather conditions and ran aground on January 23rd daybreak. As she was drifted, she went aground in parallel with the close shore, her aft approx. 20m from shore and fore part approx. 25m. Vessel had bottom contact over her entire length and a 10o PS list. Her salvage was deemed to be particularly difficult operation not only due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing at various times but also because she was sitting hard aground right in the middle of a densely populated coastline. Following instructions/orders received from her shipowners, POSEIDON dispatched its fully manned and equipped squad to Selinia of Salamis island on the basis of "no cure-no pay" for her de-oiling, pumping out of oily water residues & refloating. “YASMİN C” was successfully refloated on February 1st night / early hours Feb 2nd after extremely delicate efforts to pull her away from her grounded position (with her stern literally sitting on the beach) for a pollution free & safe redelivery to shipowners at Selinia Port.
